Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at Blinded by Delight

We understand you may have questions about the window treatments we carry, and our team is delighted to answer them! Below are some of our frequently asked questions and answers to help you learn more about our services.

  • How Much Do Window Coverings Cost?

To accurately estimate the cost of your new coverings, you must consider the window size and shape, treatment type, material, opacity, lifting mechanisms, and added customizations. For fully custom and professionally installed window coverings for a standard 35" by 72" size window, your starting cost will be closer to $200 per window but can be upwards of $1,500, depending on the options you choose.

If you're looking to replace your blinds and want the least expensive option, you can buy new coverings in stock at a home improvement store for less than $100.

  • How Do I Measure My Windows For New Coverings?

Use a tape measure to determine the width (left to right) and height (top to bottom) of your window in this order. For inside-mount coverings, measure within the frame; for outside-mount, measure beyond the frame for full coverage. A professional window coverings company will ensure accurate measurements at the time of purchase.

  • What Types Of Window Coverings Are Available?

There are several types of window coverings, including blinds, shades, shutters, and drapery. Blinds can be horizontal or vertical. Shades come in roller, cellular, banded, Roman styles, specialty shades, and shutters, which are often made of wood or composite materials.

  • How Do I Choose The Right Window Coverings For My Home?

Consider factors such as lifting systems, privacy, light control, energy efficiency, and aesthetics. If you need complete darkness, blackout shades are a great option, while other opacity levels can provide natural light with some privacy.

  • How Long Does It Take From Order To Installation?

    • Most blinds and shades typically take approximately 4-6 weeks.
    • Shutters can take 6-12 weeks, depending on shape.
    • Custom drapery can take approximately 10-12 weeks.
  • What Are The Benefits Of Motorized Window Coverings?

Motorized window coverings offer convenience and can be integrated with smart home systems. They are ideal for individuals with mobility concerns and who have hard-to-reach windows.

  • What Are The Best Window Coverings For Privacy?

Options like blinds, shutters, lined drapery, and most shade products provide excellent privacy. For a balance between privacy and light, consider top-down/bottom-up shades or shutters with dividing rails, which allow you to leave some louvers open and close others on the same panel.

  • Can Window Coverings Help With Energy Efficiency?

Yes! Many window coverings such as shutters, cellular, and drapery can help regulate indoor temperatures by reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, lowering energy bills. Call us for more information.

  • Are There Child-Safe Window Coverings?

Yes, cordless blinds, motorized shades, and window treatments with fixed cord tensioners are safe options for homes with children and pets.

  • How Long Do Window Coverings Typically Last?

The lifespan depends on the material and usage. High-quality blinds and shutters can last 10-20 years, while fabric shades and drapery may need replacing every 7-10 years due to wear and fading.  Parts and motors in powered shades come with a warranty that lasts between 5-7 years. Check out our warranty page for more details!

  • Can I Retrofit My Existing Window Coverings With Motorization?

It depends; some window coverings may be retrofitted with motorization kits. Call us for specific product and manufacturer details.

  • How Do I Replace The AA Batteries In My Battery-Operated Window Coverings?

To replace the AA batteries, locate the battery compartment, usually found behind the headrail. Open the compartment, remove the old batteries, and insert new ones, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment and test the operation.

  • How Do I Charge The Rechargeable Batteries For My Window Coverings?

For rechargeable battery-powered window coverings, connect the charging cord to the designated charging port, typically located in or near the headrail. Plug the charger into an electrical outlet and allow the battery to fully charge as per the manufacturer's recommendations before resuming use. Another option is to remove the rechargeable battery, typically located behind or near the headrail, and place it on an independent charging station per the manufacturer's recommendations before resuming use.

  • How Do I Clean And Maintain My Window Coverings?

Cleaning methods vary by type. Be sure to check the vendor's website for specific cleaning instructions based on the product. Professional cleaning may be required. Here are some recommendations:

    • Blinds: Dust regularly with a microfiber cloth, SWIFFER duster, or vacuum with a brush attachment.
    • Cellular Shades: Use a damp cloth for spot cleaning and avoid excessive moisture.
    • Custom Drapery: Professional dry cleaning only. Some companies offer on-site dry cleaning.
    • Shutters: Wipe with a damp cloth or Swiffer duster and avoid harsh chemicals.
